Candor - speak up !

Management is not about making people feel better and hiding the bitter truths of reality.

Jack Welch mentions that the biggest hinderance in the growth of an organization is lack of candor. Lack of candor is something which you can find very easily in every organization. But what is the reason for lack of candor?

  •   The first and foremost reason is that it makes people's life easier. Its very unpleasant and difficult to give a true feedback to someone in annual review. Also, it destroys the phony respect that your team would have for you.
  •   The second reason is that they are not able to see the bigger picture themselves. Speaking things coated with sugar might give a short time relief but it would eventually hit the organization in a big way.

Lack of candor basically blocks smart ideas, it blocks smart actions as well as it blocks good people as well.

Why candor is important ?
  •   candor encourages more people into conversation, it encourages people to come up with ideas whether or not their peers like them. And even in times when it makes them uncomfortable for the betterment of everyone.
  •   Since everyone comes up with good ideas and healthy debates, it generates speed. Your project would move a lot faster if you have a better and healthy vision over it.
  •   Eventually it would cut the cost. You probably won't have to iterate over the same thing again and again when you have got it right at the first place.

So basically with candor, everything runs just faster and better.
